BERRYS BAY:
FILTH
RECLAMATION - SWAMP - UNSIGHTLY - OFFENSIVE
“In view of the success of the reclamation works at Mosman, Neutral Bay, and Careening Cove, it has been decided by the Minister for Public Works to reclaim the flats at the head of Berry's Bay. At present the swamp is not only unsightly, but during the hot summer months it is apt to be offensive. The residents of the neighbourhood go further, and declare that it is actually insanitary. From time to time efforts have been made by the local authorities to induce the department to undertake the work.”
LIQUID FILTH - NUISSANCE - DANGER
“Mr. M. M'Mahon explained that they wished to have about four acres of mud flat at the head of Blue's Bay [Berry’s Bay] fronting the property of Messrs, Woolcott and Berry resumed by the Government. This flat had for a long time been a receptacle for all the liquid filth of the neighbourhood, now thickly populated and increasingly so ; it had become a source of great nuisance and a danger to the health of the inhabitants. Resumed, he had no doubt it could be made into an excellent public recreation ground, and thus supply a want which everyday was becoming more keenly felt.”
